Career preparation often, but not exclusively, occurs through Career and Technical Education (CTE).
- Programs designed to deepen a student’s understanding of a specific industry or career through hands-on training and skills, typically in late middle school and in high school.
- Programs that prepare students for future work and provide an opportunity for students to learn whether or not a given career path is a good fit.
- Examples include Career & Technical Education and Core Plus courses, skills center courses, summer internships, and recognized pre-apprenticeship programs.
Local Resources for Career Preparation
Everett Career Link Everett Career Link is a partnership between Everett Public Schools, Snohomish STEM, the City of Everett, and regional employers designed to offer students the opportunity to “learn before they earn” by showing what it is like to work in a specific job environment and providing high school credit to students. High school internships, mentorships and career exploratory experiences support the vitality of the region by providing students with the opportunity to access knowledge of pathways to fulfilling careers, while at the same time providing employers the opportunity to address workforce needs by working with potential future employees.
Sno-Isle Career Link Sno-Isle Career Link (SICL) expands the opportunities available to students that allow them to apply the skills and knowledge they have obtained in their Career and Technical Education (CTE) classes in a supported environment. SICL provides students with worksite and work-based learning opportunities. These opportunities include everything from guest speakers and industry tours to summer internships and clinical experiences. The summer internship (work-site learning) will include resume building, aptitude assessments, and 100 hours of work experience at an industry that aligns with the student’s education and career goals. Sno-Isle TECH Skills Center is a cooperative of 14 school districts. SICL serves all students in Snohomish County and focuses on enrolling students in small and rural school districts and has an equity-based approach for maximizing students’ success.
Edmonds SD Internships Link Internship Connect is a program in the Edmonds School District designed to offer meaningful experiences for students to explore career pathways and strengthen career skills; while providing employers the opportunity to address workforce needs. Through Internship Connect interns become focused on their career, as well as future educational options. Each internship is unique to the student’s interests and goals.
Arlington SD Internships Link Arlington Public Schools and the City of Arlington are proud participants of the summer internship program for local junior and senior high school students. All Arlington businesses are invited to collaborate with the city and the School District in the development of our workforce through the Arlington Career Internships (ACI) program. With the job market experiencing a scarcity of qualified employees, it only makes sense for businesses to invest in quality high school career programs. The Arlington Career Internships program will help bridge the gap and provide our local students with career-connected learning.
